Will PlayWisely® make my baby smarter?
The sciences recognize that children possess an instinct to learn. Our coaches are specially trained to ignite that natural drive.
Parents learn appropriate expectations and activities for skill learning through each stage of development strengthening a child's
opportunity to learn. A passion or drive to learn is critical to your child‟s future success. In an interesting study on reading
development, scientists wanted to discover which children were better readers by age 12 – those that learned to read at 3 years of
age or those that learned to read at 6 years of age. What they learned was a surprise. It mattered less when they learned to read
and mattered more whether they LIKED to read! PlayWisely® follows this understanding and endeavors to put the wiring in place so
later when a child discovers their purpose, passion or talent they can more fully realize their dreams.
'Smart' is no longer considered how soon a child learns certain skills or how much data a child can regurgitate. Scientists now
believe that what we recognize as a "smart" or "bright" child is really a child that clearly demonstrates command of the brain
tools for connecting to their world. "Brightness" refers to the quality of how precisely a child collects pertinent data from
the environment, how efficiently they can process and analyze that data and how quickly and appropriately they can act upon it.
Harnessing these brain tools is our performance goal. PlayWisely® does
not focus on teaching your child the ABC's and 123's for example, rather we focus on exercising the wiring that allows those
skills to be deployed efficiently. When PlayWisely® toddlers
recite the ABC's and 123's we are excited because this ability demonstrates that the wiring is in place for certain types of
learning to occur.
Will PlayWisely® make my child a better athlete?
The sciences often say that babies don't learn to move, they move to learn! Research also shows that the way in which a child views him/herself physically affects their over-all positive sense of self. PlayWisely® believes that providing a broad base of movement experience and control is essential to a child‟s overall well-being. In fact, an early love of physical play can promote a lifelong pursuit of a healthy lifestyle which includes physical fitness and/or sport. The PlayWisely® physical development curriculum follows the recognized progressions for motor skill acquisition in the areas of balance, strength, visual motor, gross motor and fine motor ability. Our approach is to provide every child the opportunity to wire a broad base of movement experience and control. A broad foundation of skill ability allows physical play to be more fun and purposeful. While we can't guarantee that your child will become a great athlete, it does make sense that a love of play, a repertoire of physical skills and the right coach can propel future athletic success.
What is the innovative, scientific methodology behind PlayWisely®?
PlayWisely® developed The Directionality Method™ for enhancing natural learning and movement ability. The patent pending method is based upon the profound effect gravity has on the form and function of human performance. From how we learn (directionality of letters and numbers, reading left to right etc..) to how we move (our laterality and our dynamic motion) gravity gives our world and our body a directionality. Developing the neural circuitry responsible for efficiently navigating our world and our body is the goal of The Directionality Method™. The Method was inspired by research with NASA and so innovative that it was presented at an Early Learning Forum at Oxford University in England. It is the first comprehensive method to include learning and movement development into a single paradigm.
Meet Coach Patty

"My passion is PlayWisely®. The potential that PlayWisely®
may have applications for early intervention for a range of neurodevelopmental issues is both humblind and exciting.
Our goal is to 'turn on and tune in' all those emerging neural circuits to perform optimally from birth to three.
From an athlete's perspective, it seems only natural that exercising the integrity of neural circuitry will lead to
improved function."
Patty Hannan is the founder of PlayWisely®. PlayWisely®
is receiving national and international attention for its ground breaking approach to Early Childhood Development. PlayWisely's®
unique approach to early development evolved from her experience as a former All-American Gymnast. PlayWisely®
combines the latest research emanating from the fields of Academia and Science then views it through the lens of a
performance sport. The inspiration for her unique approach came following her participation in a research project
conducted by NASA's Johnson Space Center studying the unique Human Performance Capabilities of the World Class
gymnast. She excelled in the study and was particularly impacted by her experiences in zero gravity aboard the
infamous 'vomit comet'.
Dr. Jerry Hommick, Director of the study asked Ms. Hannan to learn the language of neuroscience to communicate
the gymnasts intriguing interpretation of movement to the scientists. She tutored under Dr. Robert Moss then Head
of Graduate Neuroscience at UT Southwestern Medical School. Her studies spanned many fields and many years to
uncover her understanding of how the brain 'worked' when executing complex flipping and twisting maneuvers in
flight as an object of physics. Her journey uncovered a unique approach for training neurosensory skills that can
be applied to both cognitive and motor development based upon the profound effect gravity has on the form and
function of Human Performance.
She helped found the prestigious daVinci Preshool in Dallas, Texas in 1987 acting as its first teacher. Houghton-
Mifflin published her first book, "Teaching Your Child Basic Body Confidence" in 1988. Ms. Hannan started
PlayWisely® in 2003 and now has 10 Dallas/Ft. Worth
locations and 7 locations in the Czech Republic. Ms. Hannan presented PlayWisely's®
"The Directionality Method" to an Early Learning Forum at Oxford University in 2006. She continues her
involvement with the sport of gymnastics as an NCAA and USA Gymnastics Nationally rated Official.
